A Sackful of wishes is an African Novel written by Azizah Idris who lives her in Nigeria. This book portraits the the culture of the Hausa, how relationships are been done and the process of marriage. The story centers of a young girl called Hadiza who grew up in an unstable and peaceful lest home. She mother Inna lived like a slave in the house while her step mother mama was very wicked. Later on Hadiza was introduced to a man called AR by her islamic school teacher Mallam Saddam, AR was a short temper and a very jealousyperson who was obsessed with Hadiza even though Hadiza was not seeing anyone, AR guard and monitored all her affairs. Although there has been on and off the well date was later finalized and after somedays Hadiza was marriage off to the guy she knew she would suffer the rest of her life with. Hadiza went through hell, her jere was done by her husband and his friends after AR caused a scene in her family house. On the day of her wedding Hadiza spent the night been raped by AR, he had to call a nurse to stitch her up. Hadiza lived her life in pain and agony, everyday was a torture, he would stave her for days or week or even a month poor pregnant Hadiza had to give birth to Maahir, AR never catered for there need who led to hadiza starting a home business which is making hair, the torture became worst. When she got pregnant again AR products drugs which she was suspicious about and throw away, she gave birth to Abdul-Matin who later suffered and died ill. She later was pregnant again, she became very feverish AR brought medicine which she took and had a miscarriage. But later on she gave birth to Ahmad and then to Aseem. Aseem had the same Illness Abdul-matin had but this time she took him to Umma (ARs mother) but umma said she won’t take anyone to the hospital, but she knew she had to take her poor son or else he’ll end up dying like his brother. She took his to the hospital but she had to sell all her things to get money for the treatment. It was not until after 8 years Hadiza got a session which ARs favorite mallam but she had to give him the grace of 1 month but AR didnt mean his ways. Later on towards the end of the boox Hadiza took AR to court and they were separated.
Please and please we need to think properly before jumping into marriages, we girls intend to be blinded by love or by been obedient, sometimes you need to be selfish especially when it come to the well been of your self and your children. It is haram to go in marriage you know you will suffer. Please take your time and prayer to your creator for guidance.
